Billy the Dunce

Hey Hey Hey Hey. Yeah, that’s in your head now. Sorry to be posting without a comic – but I wanted to touch base with you guys and say it’s coming, soon.

I guess getting my thesis project (you’ve been reading it) done took more out of me than I thought, because after pulling an all-nighter on Sunday/Monday, I went into full-on recovery mode until Wednesday. I’ve got pencils halfway done on the next strip, but it’s going to be this weekend before it’s done. I hate to be screwing the pacing right as we hit the final stretch (or is it?) on this storyline – but let’s face it, you guys are the early adopters as far as Billy the Dunce goes. You have the taste and distinction to attach to this sort of thing early, while it’s still in it’s growing pains. (flattered enough?)

It’s tricky finding the sweet spot for pacing a strip like this, and to tell the truth I’m flying by the seat of my pants most of the time. I’m still figuring out how to tell a longer story when I only have so much time to devote to a strip that takes so much love and care to make (i.e. – I’m slow because I’m learning). Slow updates make a story lurch forward. After this one, I’m really going to try and keep it simple for a while and see how things flow…but this story built itself out of unconnected strips, so who knows?

My long term plan (trust me, I have one) is to make a damn living on this thing (really long term) so I can have the time I need to do two dedicated updates a week. And maybe a bit more. But right now, that’s in the future – maybe a bit further than I’d like, but it’s out there, waiting. In the meantime, look to the weekend for your next installment. Beyond that, I graduate next week, so it may be another one strip week (sadly). But after that – pedal to the metal, baby. We finish up this storyline, and then bigger, better, funnier, sadder. Hell, we can go anywhere we want to.
