Flux You.

Holy crap – a video of me inking? And it’s way too long? And I have a fat neck? Yes, please.

Seriously though, if you guys actually enjoy seeing me ink, and listening to my godawful nasally bird-squawk voice, I’m considering doing a semi-regular vlog while I ink. I get lonely, y’know? Talking to a camera is better than nothing…but not quite as good as the cat. Let me know what you think.

Anyway, now that you’ve skipped out on watching that monstrosity, on to bigger business. There will be merchandise, and soon. I’m not kidding.

That button set will be the first thing to come out, as soon as I get the images for the buttons and the trading card all taken care of (the image and design up there is just a placeholder). Oh, and there’ll be five buttons, not four. Sneak peak of the real card you say? Well, why not. You’ve all earned it, if you watched that video.

It’s an original illustration, and at least for now it’s only going to be available with the buttons. I’ll be doing a different card for each character, but only as a pack-in with other merch. What other merch, you ask? Darned if I know. Let me finish the buttons first. And maybe a t-shirt or two. Next week: we talk about the integrity of selling you all crap that I made by myself. Its that better, or worse than mass produced junk of Chinese manufacture? I say, no.

Later,

J.

oooo pretty inks! That bag o’ buttons looks awesome as well.

  2. xengoat says:

There better be more than 12-13 people reading this comic. Love (LOVE) that you hand-ink, and with a brush no less.

  3. admin says:

@xengoat: well, maybe 15. It’s up to you guys to help spread the word if you like it, though. In other words, spam those message boards! And Billy will ALWAYS be hand-inked. Its the core and spirit of the strip. I don’t minding inking digitally, but it’s a style all it’s own. One that doesn’t fit this comic.

  4. pawnhandler says:

Proud to be one of the 12!! I love this comic, but yeah, I had no idea the amount of tedious work involved in inking it! I have neither the grace nor the attention span! I guess I’ll stick to tormenting fourth graders instead. :-)

    Jason-
I must say, your site is, and has been #2 on my bookmark toolbar (second to my email) for about a year. WTF else is there to do in Oklahoma!!! I usually read them twice. Thanks for the video!!!

It really is good stuff, Jason. I enjoyed the video!
I’m looking forward to finding out what exactly Sally’s done to get sent to this school (other than being really good at welding and beating people up, of course).

  7. Steve says:

Oh I just loved it. As another sad case who sits over a light box spending far too much time inking my comic, every word rang true. Mind you, your animator’s glove is far flashier than mine — I’ve got an old sock with a thumb-hole cut in it.
Nice to see a video that shows the time, oh grief the time, that goes into inking.

  8. admin says:

@Taylor: I’m not going to say what Sally’s particular specialty is, but it certainly doesn’t hurt to guess…

And thanks to all the commenters saying things that are far too nice, new and not-so-new. You guys make me feel like a real cartoonist. Instead of…you know…a fake one? Maybe?
