Picnic Peril Continued Again

I don’t like the way Been is interacting with that worm/tentacle thingey. It’s too floaty. No sense of weight. Probably going to give that part another pass. Otherwise, going swimmingly.

Tonight I try and write the next comic. Hooray for that. Excited to get back to routine.

Cleaned up a little bit of the new print artwork. Though you might get kick out of this if I document the process a bit. So far all of this is in photoshop: So far my favorite part are the skull teeth on the worm-tentacle-thingey that Been is riding.

See, I told you guys I’d post something this week.

Sketches for the book are going swimmingly, and rather fast (thankfully. I’d prefer to not be drawing the whole time I’m visiting with my Army Bro and his family this weekend), so I took a little time to play with the Billy crew outside of the comic. This is what came out:

It’s been a loooong time since I went nuts on an image and just filled it up completely. And even better, I can make some wallpapers and prints using it. It’ll probably be a little while before it’s completed, but I’ll post at least once more this week with an updated image. Probably just cleaned up a bit.

And to think I was originally thinking of drawing Been as Batman. This is way more fun (and more original, too).

This one makes a dozen — I’m actually up to number 14, and will start working on number 15 tomorrow. After that, it’s summer break. I’m definitely starting to get better with color, but I’m still nowhere near adept. I’m just glad that this gives me a chance to get better at it while making a little bit of extra money.

Just to refresh your memories and explain Little Steps to anyone who happens to be new around here — this is a comic that I do for the Dartmouth College Green Lite program. It gets published on kiosks that monitor energy usage in the buildings where they’re installed to help monitor energy usage using an animated graphic of a polar bear. It’s a neat idea which you can see at the link, although it is a bit slow over the internet.

It’s ended up being a bit focused on global climate change, but then again — what more important issue is there facing the overall health of the planet today? Alien invasion, maybe, but that’s a longshot.

Anyway, hope you enjoy these things. Billy takes so freakin’ long to draw that extra content can be hard to come by.

So, I was spending some time doodling last night, while the lady was folding paper cranes and making tissue paper pompoms (she leads a strange, crafty existence), and I though you guys might like to see the results. Would you? …Yeeeeeah…so this isn’t Blue’s clues — I can’t hear your response. I only ask because of my cripplingly severe empathy. WHAMMO!

I know! Boring, right? So here’s the better version, with funny(ish) notes drawn over it photoshop.

So, Miss Flyky, otherwise know as Mrs. Billy the Dunce (that sounds a bit weird…), moonlights as a teacher when she’s not listening to me talk about comics. Aaaaand because I’m always looking for ways to show my love for her, and at the same time make up for two years in Vermont studying comic books, I volunteered to draw her a valentine for school purposes. And what do the wee ones like? Dinosaurs and Princesses.

Though I’d share it with you guys. In fact, here’s a high res version should you want to print it, even.
